Exploratory Drilling
Exploratory drilling is one of the fundamental methods for determining geological composition, groundwater levels, and collecting samples for laboratory geomechanical testing. These are conducted using machine-based rotational drilling with continuous coring.
Test Pits
Test pits provide a direct insight into the geological structure of the terrain at a specific location. During excavation, experts visually and technically analyze soil layers and document their physical and mechanical properties. This method is particularly useful for investigations at shallower depths.
Penetration Testing (CPT, CPTU, SPT)
Static Penetration Tests (CPT and CPTU)
The CPT and CPTU are geotechnical investigation methods used to assess soil properties directly at the site of the structure. This involves pushing a cone-shaped probe into the soil while measuring the resistance encountered during penetration. These tests provide critical information about soil strength, composition, and stratification, helping engineers and geotechnical experts evaluate its stability and bearing capacity.
Standard Penetration Tests (SPT)
The SPT is performed by driving a 30.50 cm-long cylinder into the soil at the bottom of a previously drilled borehole using a 0.63 kN weight dropped from a height of 76.3 cm. SPT results are used for soil classification, determining soil’s strength-deformation characteristics, and more.
Installation of Piezometric Constructions
To determine the constant groundwater level and monitor changes over time, piezometric constructions are installed in the exploratory boreholes. Based on groundwater regime data, various geostatic analyses are conducted, offering recommendations for foundational pit protection and other related measures.
